Exotic Pet Care

Reptile Care at Hudson Veterinary Hospital

At Hudson Veterinary Hospital, we understand that reptiles are unique and fascinating pets that require specialized care. Dr. Chilupe is experienced in handling and treating a wide variety of reptiles, from bearded dragons to snakes (under 10 ft). We are committed to providing the highest quality care to ensure the health and well-being of your reptilian friends.

Please note: We are unable to see any species that are venomous (to humans – hognoses are allowed).  All pets must be in an enclosure or carrier for their appointment—no leashes or shoulder rides!  While we won’t be performing surgeries or long-term hospitalizations for reptiles, we’re here for all your other reptilian needs.

To schedule your pet’s appointment, please call us at 803-905-9700. Reptile appointments must be made over the phone at this time.

How Reptile Vet Care Differs from Traditional Vet Care

  • Unique Anatomy and Physiology: Reptiles have distinct anatomical structures and physiological processes, necessitating specialized diagnostic techniques and treatments.
  • Environmental Needs: Proper care for reptiles includes understanding their specific environmental requirements, such as temperature, humidity, and UV light, which are crucial for their health and well-being.
  • Dietary Requirements: Reptiles often have unique dietary needs that vary widely between species, requiring precise nutritional planning and guidance.
  • Handling and Restraint: Reptiles must be handled and restrained carefully to avoid stress and injury, using techniques tailored to each species’ specific characteristics.
  • Lifespan and Growth Patterns: Reptiles can have varied lifespans and growth rates, impacting how their health and developmental needs are managed over time.
